Stereotype

A stereotype is used to categorize a group of people. People don't understand that type of person, so they put them into classifications, thinking that everyone who is that needs to be like that, or anyone who acts like their classifications is one. No one is meant to be someone; they can choose to be anyone they want to be. Who wants to live with people’s expectation-especially people with no relation with you but in the same society? Find a society and group of nice people that fit you instead of trying to fit in a society that you do not like to be in. Or do it in a better way, why not create your own society? As long as it is harmless to others and true to yourself, that is how a leader comes, for instance.

Stereotypes exist about cultures and countries as a whole. One of the most common stereotype examples is stereotypes surrounding those who are Black. Saying that all Blacks are good at sports is a stereotype, because it’s grouping the race together to indicate that everyone of that race is a good athlete. Well, that is a good stereotyping. Powerful voice is also one of the gifts of black people. This might be the only things that black people proud of because most black people are criticized in developed countries. For example, all Blacks outside of the United States are poor. On the contrary, all white male Americans are stereotype as obese, lazy, and dim-witted people. For example, Homer Simpson of the TV series The Simpsons is the personification of this stereotype. All Arabs and Muslims are terrorists because war often happens in Middle East where most Arabs and Muslims live. For example, Osama Bin Laden was one of the greatest terrorist of all time. I think environment causes it. Two kinds of people will be created in wars which are the one who goes after peace and the goes after domination the world. Therefore, terrorists are born. Besides that, we are told that Italian or French people are the best lovers and also the best kissers. That is how French kiss being named. I think movies have misled people to think that way too. Other than that, all Asians are good at math and like to eat rice. Asian people are very cautious and behaved especially Japanese. All Americans are generally considered to be friendly, generous, and tolerant, but also arrogant, impatient, and domineering.

Sex discrimination is also one of the stereotypes. For centuries women have been categorizing as the weaker human being although women have been fighting for women rights. Men are strong and do all the work. Men are the "backbone." Women aren't as smart as a man. Women can’t do as good of a job as a man. Women are not good at sports. Guys are messy and unclean. Men who spend too much time on the computer or read are geeks. Women always smell good. Women take forever to do anything. Women are more brilliant than men. Women are always moody. Women try to work out problems while men take immediate action. All women like the color pink. All women like dolls. Women become cheerleaders. Women take 2 hours to shower. Women hog the bathroom. Women love mirrors. Women like make-up. Women are fussy about their hair. Women work in department stores. Women like fashion magazines. Women are discrete about intimacy. Women do not drive well. Women never take chances. Women always talk too much on the phone. Women actually use only 5% of what's in their purse. Everything else is junk. Only women can be nurses. Only men can be doctors. Men are stronger and more aggressive. Men are better at sports. Men hate reading. Men always have an "I don't care" attitude. Men don't get grossed out by scrapes and bruises. Men are tough. Men are thickheaded. Men like cars. Men become jocks in high school. Men take 2 seconds to shower. Men like hats. Men could care less if they become bald. Men wear whatever is clean. Men usually work in messy places. Men like car or porn magazines. Men brag about intimacy. Men take too many chances. Men always lose all arguments against girls.

Also, parents always have expectation on their children. They expect their boys to be quarterback and their girls to be ballerina. This is unfair especially when their children are not fond of it. Parents may give opportunity to their children to try any activity in order to let them explore what their interests are. Some parents will not stop their children from doing things they like but some will.
